Cholecystitis Causes Symptoms Information with Treatment

After a meal, bile is squeezed out of the gallbladder by strong muscular contractions, and passes through a duct into the duodenum. Some patients have no symptoms.

Cholecycstitis is a painful inflammation of the gallbladder, the small, pear-shaped sac under the liver that stores bile. It is commonly due to impaction (sticking) of a gallstone within the neck of the gall bladder, leading to inspissation of bile , bile stasis Science Articles, and infection by gut organisms.  Patients with mild and infrequent symptoms may consider oral medication to dissolve gallstones. Nausea.

Vomiting .

Vague abdominal pain.

Fever.

Chronic indigestion.

Belching.

chills.

Jaundice .

Loss of appetite .

Treatment of Cholecystitis

Bowel rest (no food or drink).

Surgical removal of the gallbladder 2-3 days after cholecystitis for most patients.

Intravenous broad-spectrum antibiotics .

Immediate surgical gallbladder removal if gangrene has occurred .

Pain medications (Demerol usually best).
