 Collagenous colitis is a newly-recognized disease of the colon. Collagenous colitis is inflammation of the colon, the last portion of the digestive tract that ends at the rectum and anus. If medications do not control the diarrhea, taking a bismuth subsalicylate such as Pepto-Bismol or Kaopectate. Avoiding certain medications such as nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS).In rare cases, the chronic diarrhoea cannot be brought under control and surgery is needed.
